Cedar Park is full of homes built in the late 90s and 2000s, and a lot of them went up with builder-grade masonite, hardboard, or early vinyl on the elevations the street doesn't see. Twenty-odd years of Texas sun later, that siding is chalking, swelling at the bottom edge, or quietly letting water into the sheathing behind it. Replacing it is most of the siding work we do in Cedar Park.
Siding work we do in Cedar Park
- James Hardie fiber cement siding. The default recommendation for this climate and the large majority of what we install. Lap siding, panels, and board-and-batten.
- Full siding replacement. Tear off the old material, inspect and repair the sheathing, re-wrap, then install new. The only honest way to deal with hardboard that has started to fail.
- Partial replacement and repair. When only one elevation has gone, usually the west or south face that takes the sun, or a section damaged by hail.
- Trim, fascia, and soffit. Often more rotted than the siding itself, and the place where water has usually been getting in.
- Storm and hail damage. Free inspection, and we work directly with your adjuster.
- Colour changes. Factory-finished ColorPlus, or primed Hardie painted on site if you want a custom colour.
Why fiber cement, specifically here
Central Texas is unusually hard on exterior cladding. Long stretches of direct UV, wild swings in humidity, hail most springs, and a termite population that takes wood seriously. Fiber cement is the material that handles all four at once.
- It does not rot or swell. The failure mode of hardboard and masonite here is water wicking into the bottom edge. Fiber cement has no organic material to absorb it.
- Termites have no interest in it. Meaningful in Williamson County.
- It holds paint far longer. Factory-finished boards routinely go 15 years between repaints, against 5 to 7 for wood siding in this sun.
- It handles hail far better than vinyl, which cracks, or aluminium, which dents permanently.
- Insurers and buyers both recognise it. It reads as a genuine upgrade at resale, not a repair.

What siding costs in Cedar Park
Siding is priced by the square foot of wall area, not by the floor area of the house, which is why two 2,400-square-foot homes can quote very differently depending on how many storeys and how much trim they have.
| Scope | Typical range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Hardie lap siding, installed | $10 to $16 / sq ft | Tear-off, wrap, install, trim, paint |
| Single elevation replacement | $6,000 to $14,000 | Most common Cedar Park job |
| Full re-side, 1,500 sq ft single storey | $17,000 to $26,000 | $26,000 to $36,000 if complex |
| Full re-side, 2,000 sq ft single storey | $22,000 to $34,000 | $34,000 to $46,000 if complex |
| Full re-side, 2,500 sq ft two storey | $30,000 to $44,000 | Access and staging add cost |
Rotted sheathing found under the old siding is the usual variable. We quote the repair rate up front so it is not a surprise mid-job.
What the job actually involves
- Free on-site inspection. John walks every elevation, checks the bottom courses and the trim, and looks for the soft spots that tell you where water has been getting in.
- Line-itemed quote. Material, tear-off, disposal, sheathing repair rate, trim, and paint, all separated so you can see what you are paying for.
- HOA submission. Most Cedar Park subdivisions review exterior colour changes. We prepare the packet.
- Tear-off and inspection. The old material comes off and we find out what the sheathing underneath actually looks like. This is the step where honest contractors and cheap ones separate.
- Weather barrier. New house wrap and flashing at every window and door. The part you will never see and the part that determines whether this lasts.
- Install, trim, caulk, paint. Correct fastener spacing, proper clearance at grade and at the roofline, and the joint detailing that keeps water out.
- Cleanup and walkthrough. We magnet-sweep for fasteners and walk every elevation with you.
Most Cedar Park re-sides run one to three weeks depending on size and how much sheathing needs replacing.
Things worth knowing before you get quotes
Ask what happens when they find rot
On a house with twenty-year-old hardboard, some bad sheathing is likely. A quote that says nothing about it either has not thought about it or is planning to renegotiate once the walls are open. Get the repair rate in writing before you sign.
Clearance at grade matters
Fiber cement needs a specified gap between the bottom course and the ground or a hard surface. Installed tight to the dirt it will wick moisture, and it will also void the manufacturer warranty. It is one of the most common installation faults we see on re-sides done cheaply.
Factory finish versus site paint
ColorPlus arrives finished, has a long finish warranty, and only needs touch-up at the cut ends. Site painting gives you any colour you like and costs less up front, but you are relying on the paint job rather than a factory coating. Both are legitimate. Know which one you are being quoted.
If it is hail, involve your insurer first
Cedar Park takes hail most springs, and siding damage is frequently covered alongside the roof. Do not let anyone start work before the adjuster has seen it. We do free inspections and meet the adjuster on site.

How much does siding cost in Cedar Park, TX?
James Hardie fiber cement siding in Cedar Park typically runs $10 to $16 per square foot installed, including tear-off, house wrap, trim, and paint. A single elevation usually lands between $6,000 and $14,000. A full re-side runs about $17,000 to $26,000 on a 1,500-square-foot single storey, $22,000 to $34,000 at 2,000 square feet, and $30,000 to $44,000 on a 2,500-square-foot two storey. Rotted sheathing discovered during tear-off is the main variable, so we quote that repair rate up front.
Do I need to replace all my siding or just part of it?
Often just part. On a lot of Cedar Park homes only the west and south elevations have really failed, because those take the sun. If the rest is sound, replacing one or two elevations can buy you another decade for a fraction of the cost. The catch is matching, so if you are changing colour anyway a full re-side often makes more sense. We will tell you honestly which situation you are in at the inspection.
How long does a siding job take in Cedar Park?
Most Cedar Park re-sides run one to three weeks on site, depending on the size of the house and how much sheathing has to be replaced once the old material comes off. Single-elevation jobs are usually under a week. HOA colour approval can add time before we start, so it is worth submitting early.
Will my insurance cover storm-damaged siding?
Frequently, yes. Cedar Park gets hail most springs, and siding damage is often covered alongside roof damage on the same claim. Do not have any work started before your adjuster has inspected it. We do free damage inspections, document what we find, and meet the adjuster at the house.
Is Hardie siding worth it over vinyl in Central Texas?
In this climate, we think so. Vinyl cracks under hail and can distort in sustained heat, and neither is unusual here. Fiber cement will not rot, does not interest termites, holds paint far longer under our UV, and handles hail much better. It costs more up front and it is the material we would put on our own house in Williamson County.
Do you handle Cedar Park HOA approval for a colour change?
Yes. Most Cedar Park subdivisions require architectural review for exterior colour changes, and several maintain an approved palette. We prepare and submit the packet as part of the project, including colour samples where the HOA wants them.
